Youth Career Life Development

Youth is a journey of self-definition. With the right inspiration, every young person can discover their passion and shine brightly on the world stage.

Introduction to Career & Life Development Concepts

Each of us is the author of our own life journey. Through the process of "Career and Life Development"—supported by timely mentorship and training—we cultivate core competencies that empower us to achieve three vital milestones:

🎯 Decisions: Making informed, initial choices regarding our education and career pathways.

👥 Identity: Building a positive, resilient, and authentic sense of personal and professional identity.

🚀 Aspirations: Developing and pursuing the meaningful life goals we truly desire.

Inspiring Engagement

Unlocking youth potential requires continuous engagement—empowering them through new experiences, broader networks, and ongoing life planning.

Self-Discovery

Self-discovery ignites youth passion and purpose, empowering them to drive their own growth and chart their unique life course.

Exploring Diverse Pathways

Life has no limits! Both paid and unpaid experiences build strength, helping youth explore interests and unlock diverse pathways.

Career Management & Goal Setting

Clear life management empowers youth to align career ambitions with personal goals, overcoming challenges to fulfill their ultimate aspirations.

Our career and life development should never be limited to schooling and paid employment. It expands to encompass "unpaid" roles—such as our serious leisure, family care, and volunteering.

The invaluable experiences, personal attitudes, skills, and knowledge accumulated through these diverse roles are all indispensable building blocks in mapping out our unique life journey.

Serious Leisure

Through the Extended Notion of Work, young people can break through the limitations of conventional pathways related to academic or work achievements. It empowers them to gain a holistic understanding of themselves and discover their unique strengths and capabilities across four core dimensions: Values, Attitudes, Skills, and Knowledge (VASK). By doing so, youth can explore a wider array of diverse career and life possibilities, step-by-step achieve their personal goals, and ultimately transcend their potential to make a meaningful, positive contribution to others and society.

Our values are reflected in our daily behaviors, and the beliefs and principles they encompass guide every choice we make. Sound values serve as a powerful tool for navigation and decision-making; moreover, they are not static, but continue to evolve and grow over time.

Attitudes refer to our perspectives on things, the actions we take, and our readiness to react in a specific way toward people, events, and objects. Rather than being fixed, our attitudes shift and evolve alongside changes in our value orientations and the accumulation of life experiences.

Skills help us navigate and manage different tasks, information, and interpersonal relationships. They are the practical capabilities used to manifest our value orientations and attitudes, and they can be continually acquired and mastered through ongoing learning.

Knowledge encompasses information, techniques, know-how, and practical methods that facilitate the execution and completion of specific tasks. It can be acquired across various domains—including formal education, professional training, and the workplace—as well as through everyday life experiences to build both general common sense and specialized expertise.

Vertical and Horizontal Career Development

Youth development is never a single, fixed path; rather, it is a dynamic journey that can be explored and planned through both vertical and horizontal dimensions. (Decisions), build a positive personal career identity (Identity), and develop desired life aspirations (Aspirations).

  • Vertical Development:

Centered around personal interests or VASK, this path focuses on inward deepening and continuous investment in the same direction or domain, gradually enhancing professionalism and cultivating "deep passions." The key lies in sustained commitment to transform a casual interest into a dedicated expertise or a profession.

  • Horizontal Development:

Centered around one’s discovered VASK or interests, this path focuses on outward expansion, exploring other relevant pathways across different occupations where the same or similar VASK can be applied. The key lies in diversification, broadening horizons, and discovering more possibilities to avoid being confined to a single interest or industry.
